So as usual, Michelle and I are spending out afternoon working at Starbucks. But I have a new assignment today. I’ve spent the better part of today researching different subjects, which I immensely enjoy doing because I’m very good at finding and compiling data. One of the new topics I’ve been learning about is SEO.
I have never used SEO before, so I’ve been trying to figure out what in the world it is. So far I’ve deduced that SEO is a type of analytics that people can use to compile search terms and phrases for their website. So if you enter something in the search bar in google, those keywords that you put in the search bar can connect to keywords that websites have selected so that they are more likely to come up.
But the weird thing about the SEO analytics is there is some tool, or program, somewhere that puts one company at the top. Like if you search a very general term such as “digital marketing” a zillion different web pages and criteria pop up. But if you type in “Michelle Jones Creative digital marketing”, you will get Michelle’s website. I want to know what people have to pay to be the first thing that comes up on the search, and because of that amount of money is it worth it?
When I was searching for marketing internships I was having the hardest time finding them, because a random bunch of job websites kept popping up over design company websites. I had to enter the most SPECIFIC criteria to even find something in Rock Hill, it was probably something along the lines of “digital marketing internship rock hill sc” and then scroll through several pages because definitions of what digital marketing was would come up at the top, or strange ad pages would be at the top.
So that is my assignment, figure out what makes a website get to the top of the search criteria through combination of keywords and meta descriptions (this is the description that comes up under a website name on Google).
Wish me luck!
