It is finally nice out! After a week of rainy and dismal weather the sun is out, and to celebrate Michelle and I went to Starbucks and are now doing our work outside.
I’m not sure what it was, but I was more excited than usual to come to work today. I know what you’re thinking, who REALLY is excited to go to work? Someone who loves what they do that’s who! After reading over my to do list yesterday for this week, I couldn’t wait to get started on some of the projects.
The first assignment for today was to make several graphics for the client Fundanoodle(It’s a children’s company, as you could guess by the name). I would have to say that is one of my favorite tasks to do, design flyers and Instagram graphics for clients, and I think being the PR Chair for my sorority prepared me for this type of work. Of course working for your sorority is different, there’s no product you’re really selling, but the work you do has to get approved by a committee before it is put on social media, and you grow a backbone because rejection of your work happens.
So just like I did for my sorority, I created three very different versions of each graphic so that the client has options and knows which way they want to go. Often times when it comes to design, people can’t describe what they like until they see it. Sort of like the phrase ” you don’t know what you had until its gone”, but backwards. So even suggesting a color scheme can be difficult for people, and that gives designers a lot of freedom of expression, but sometimes having at least a direction to go in can be helpful. Creativity is key.
We had a small accident at lunch today. After working on the Fundanoodle project, we went downstairs to the kitchen where Michelle attempted to make avocado and toast. In the end she was successful, but not before cutting herself with the knife while she tried to get the pit of the avocado out. Needless to say, we need to get her protective gloves or someone needs to invent a force field!
We have a new client that needs a website, and they’re a construction company called Red Cedar. I got to spend some time with the WordPress application Muffin thinking and arranging what kind of look it should have. One of the theme structures I liked was called Interior, so when it comes time to build the site I hope we can go in that direction. Michelle said I didn’t need to, but I think I’ll read the instructions for Muffin so I know what each button does because I go randomly clicking (even more than I already have!)
And currently we are outside at a park doing work at a picnic table. I am trying to finish up my assignment from last week of resizing all of the pictures on The Scoop List for Scoop Charlotte, and I’m almost done with the second page.
I wish my computer had an option to have a screen setting like the Kindle white pages. That way I could spend all day outside while I do work because I wouldn’t have to worry about the glare on my computer or having to turn the brightness up to see the screen. With all the weird things people have come up with, someone needs to invent that.
